Meal Plan Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who do I call if I have a food or cafeteria question?

A: Call Dining Services at (940) 565-2462. If you are on campus, please stop by our office in Crumley Hall, Room 132. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Q: Am I required to have a meal plan?

A: All Students living on campus are required to purchase a meal plan. Exceptions include upper class students living in College Inn, Santa Fe, or Mozart Square and special exemptions.

Q: How do I get exempted from the meal plan?

A: Come by Crumley Hall Rm. 132 to pick up a Request for Exemption form or download and print the exemption form at http://dining.unt.edu/mealplans/exemption.php. Please note: You are financially responsible for your meal plan up until the application process has been completed and a decision has been made by the Director of Dining Services. The Director's decision whether to exempt you is based upon special circumstances. (i.e. work/class conflict)

Q: What if I miss meals because of a class?

A: We will prepare a sack lunch for you to take with you or allow you to take a carry-out meal with you. See the cafeteria manager to sign up for this special option.

Q: May I drop my meal plan and go on a diet program that provides all my food?

A: Before you consider dropping your meal plan, you will need to visit with the staff dietitian. She will assist you in learning to follow almost all diets while on the meal plan. If your diet cannot be met by the regular menu with some simple modifications, you must provide appropriate documentation from your private physician. See the dietitian for more information.

Q: Do I still have to pay for my meal contract if my work schedule causes me to miss a lot of my meals?

A: If your class and work schedule cause you to frequently miss meals, all lunches or dinners, you may apply to drop a portion of your meal plan. The meal card area of the Office of Dining Services will work with you to see what changes can be made. Contact us as early in the semester as possible to make this change. Watch for notices in each cafeteria about deadlines for making meal card changes. Also, a sack lunch can be prepared if you plan in advance for the meals you miss. The last day to change your Fall meal plan is September 22, 2006; the last date for Spring changes is January 26, 2007.

Q: What if I am on a special diet?

A: We will go out of our way to meet your needs. Every item we serve is labeled with nutrition information such as calories, fat, protein, and carbohydrates to assist you in making educated choices about your diet. Our food labels also include the presence of several common allergens. We have a Registered Dietitian on staff to counsel you about your special needs. For more information see the Nutrition Page.
