COVID-19 Response Meal Plan Credits

This webpage subject to change. Last updated December 15, 2020.

Due to UNT’s response to COVID-19, some Meal Plan Members qualify for a credit of the unused portion of select Spring 2020 Meal Plans:

  • Unlimited 7-Day

  • Unlimited 5-Day

  • Advantage 960

  • Advantage 805

  • Advantage 660

  • 1-a-Day

  • Eight's Enough

  • Commuter Any 10

  • Commuter Weekday

How much will my credit be?

Each Meal Plan Member’s credit amount will vary depending on the type of Plan and any outstanding Room & Board charges. To estimate your credit, use the following calculations:

7-Day and 5-Day Unlimited Plans

Your Meal Plan has two components: a Dining Hall meals portion and a Flex portion:

For example  Dining Hall meals portion  + Flex portion  = Total Meal Plan Cost
7-day Value Plan  $1,400    $400    $1,800 + tax

The Dining Hall meals portion of your credit will be pro-rated as a percentage of Plan days lost due to the university’s response to COVID-19, determined by the date of last use or March 23, 2020, whichever is later:

For example  (Original Meal Plan cost - Flex portion)  X % of plan unused by date  = Dining Hall meals portion
7-day Value Plan  ($1,800  - 400)  X 0.36  = $538.57

The Flex portion is the amount of Flex dollars remaining as of May 31, 2020.

For example  Flex awarded  - Flex spent  = Flex credit
7-day Value Plan  $400  - $250  = $150

Your Meal Plan credit is the total of the Dining Hall meals and Flex credits:

For example  Dining Hall meals portion   + Flex portion  = Total Meal Plan Credit
7-day Value Plan  $538.57  + $150  = $688.57 + tax

Advantage 960, Advantage 805, Advantage 660 Meal Plans

Any unspent Spring 2020 Advantage Flex Plan dollars as of May 31, 2020 will be applied as a COVID Meal Plan credit. Please note that all Advantage Flex Plans include Bonus Funds, which are excluded from the credit. The credit for these meal plans is calculated using the formula below.

For example  Original Meal Plan cost  Total Flex awarded  - Bonus funds  - Spent Flex  = Meal Plan Credit
Advantage 960 Plan  $860  $960  - $160   - $300  = $500 + tax

1-a-Day, Eight's Enough, Commuter Any 10 and Commuter Weekday Meal Plans

Your Meal Plan credit will be pro-rated as a percentage of Plan days lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic, determined by the date of last use or March 23, 2020, whichever is later:

For example  Plan price    X % of plan unused  by date  = Meal Plan Credit
Eight’s Enough   $770    .35   = $269.50 + tax

How do I get my Meal Plan credit?

Your credit will be processed automatically as a courtesy to you and will be posted to myUNT. No action is required of you to process your Meal Plan credit.

By July 13, 2020, your COVID-19 Spr20 Dining Credit will be applied to your Fall 2020 myUNT term summary and will be applied toward Housing and Dining charges that post to your account prior to the Census Date (September 5, 2020).

What do I do with my Meal Plan credit?

Your Meal Plan credit can be used toward any Fall 2020 Meal Plan and/or Housing charges.

If you’re living on campus during Fall 2020 and have already selected a Meal Plan, your credit will automatically be applied to your Fall 2020 Room & Board balance in MyUNT.

If you’re living off-campus during Fall 2020, we recommend visiting now to start browsing our new 2020-2021 Meal Plans. Reach out to us at if you need help selecting the best Meal Plan for you.

Beginning July 20, 2020, you’ll be able to select your Plan(s) online. Charges will post to your MyUNT account, and your credit will automatically apply to any outstanding Room & Board balance.

  • If you take no action and do not select a Meal Plan by 11:59 p.m. on the Census Date, the entire value of your credit will be converted to S-20* by September 16, 2020. You will be notified by email once your S-20 is activated for use.

  • If you select a Meal Plan (or combination of Plans) that costs MORE than your credit amount, you will be responsible for paying the difference.

  • If you select a Meal Plan (or combination of Plans) that costs LESS than your credit amount, the difference will be converted to S-20* by September 16, 2020. You will be notified by email once your S-20 is activated for use.

Please make your selection carefully, as Meal Plans purchased with Spring 2020 Credits may not be exchanged or upgraded once they have been activated for use.

Can I select a Meal Plan then request a refund?

Spring 2020 Meal Plan Credits are a special one-time courtesy to Meal Plan Members, and as such, any Plans purchased using Spring 2020 credits are not eligible for refunds at anytime and may not be carried over beyond May 28, 2021. Regardless of the Plan’s standard policies, all Plans that would typically roll over, if purchased using any amount of Spring 2020 Meal Plan Credits, will expire May 28, 2021.

Your S-20 will be activated for use by September 16, 2020 and will be honored just like our standard Flex dollars through May 28, 2021. Purchases made with S-20 will be taxed at the register because your Meal Plan credit included sales tax in addition to the original Meal Plan price.

This easy-to-use, cashless payment method is accepted at every Dining Services venue on campus, including your favorite Retail Restaurants like Starbucks, Chick-fil-A and The Campus Chat Food Court. To enjoy all-you-care-to-eat meals in our Dining Halls, you’ll simply pay the Standard Door Rate. S-20 is nonrefundable and any remaining balance will expire on May 28, 2021.

Once activated, you can view your S-20 balance anytime by accessing your Meal Plan Membership online.
