Our Culture of Excellence
Our motto—“It’s about the food”—is what we’re about at our core. We help UNT students through wholesome meals and exemplary service.
We shoot for the stars, and we have the accolades to prove it. And the greatest reward of the work we do is the exhilaration of overcoming obstacles and excelling at things that few dare attempt. We are firm believers in the power of we—that we can accomplish much more collectively than we would on our own. Each team member brings a unique set of skills, talents and perspectives to the table, and finds a supportive team walking alongside them as they scale new heights together.
We are proud of our people and the work they do: We really cook. We employ professional chefs and cooks who craft wholesome, tasty meals from scratch.
- We operate 20+ retail food shops, five Dining Halls, an upscale dining restaurant, commissary bakery and full-service catering department
- We serve nearly 5 million meals annually
- We are the largest employer of students on campus
- Mean Greens Café is the nation’s first 100% vegan college Dining Hall
- Kitchen West is Texas’ first university Dining Hall Certified Free From™ the Big 8 Food Allergens and Gluten
- Our commitment to sustainability is comprehensive, from how we source our food to how we clean our dishes
- Mean Greens Acres is our organic, hydroponic, non-GMO farm on campus
- Our chefs, recipes and leadership are often featured in such trade publications as Food Management and FoodService Director magazines
- Recipient of the prestigious Loyal E. Horton Award from the National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS)

“Working for UNT Dining Services has been a rewarding experience as it has helped me develop a stronger work ethic and better character. Each day provides a new task to learn or to improve upon. I have formed friendships with both coworkers and patrons as we all work together as a team. Additionally, management is always willing to work with a college student's complicated schedule and understands school must come first.”
--Erin, Advertising major
“Working for UNT Dining Services enables me to work in a fun, fast-paced environment where I meet great friends and amazing managers. The skills I’ve obtained in my years working for Dining Services have prepared me for future jobs in any field. My managers are always willing to work with my schedule and it makes my life a lot less stressful, not to mention my job is just a short walk from home!”
--Perla, Biology major
“Working at Bruce was a highlight of my time at UNT. The ease of being able to work on campus allows me to make money while still focusing on my studies. Dining Services has helped to give me the confidence and experience that I need to succeed in life. There are great leadership and promotion opportunities that prepare you for work after college. My favorite part about working in Dining Services is the people. I made some of my closest friends working in Dining Services. Going to work at Bruce didn’t feel like a job; I was actually excited to go to work. I love Dining Services because the staff is always friendly and the food is always great.”
--William Dalton Pickens, Integrative Studies
"The students are vital to our everyday operations. They are great at connecting with the customers, who are often other students themselves. The students at our location bond together so well to always create a happy and engaging work environment. They are so supporting of each other and our department!"
--Lorne Mayes, Interior Design
"I love the general camaraderie I’ve experienced when working for UNT Dining retail. It makes me want to do my best. Communication is phenomenal as well, be it training or simply problem-solving with co-workers. I feel like I’m a part of something, and that also inspires me to do my absolute best."
--D’Lo Hampton, Master of Music Performance (Voice)
"The students are one of my favorite parts about working on a college campus. After just one semester they begin to feel like family to me and when they finally graduate, I am happy for them, but also so sad to see them go. They are so vital to our operation and I’m so proud and impressed by them on a daily basis."
--Whitney Murphy, Senior Retail Manager -- Starbucks
