Residential To-Go Meals

Spring 2024 Pilot Program

When will To-Go Meals be available?

The To-Go Meal pilot program will be offered during the Spring 2024 semester beginning Tuesday, January 16 through Friday, May 10, 2024.

Which Dining Hall offers To-Go Meals?

Bruceteria, located inside Bruce Hall, is the exclusive location providing the To-Go Meal option for breakfast and lunch periods. Students noted increased flexibility during the dinner period, so the pilot program does not include a To-Go Meal option for dinner.

What constitutes a to-go meal at Bruceteria?

A To-Go Meal at Bruceteria consists of one entrée, two sides, roll and dessert. It’s important to note that To-Go Meals do not include a To-Go Beverage. The container must be able to close.

What is the cost of a To-Go Meal, and how can I pay for it?

The price for a To-Go Meal varies based on your meal plan status:

No Meal Plan: The total retail cost is $11.35 (before tax). You can pay with Flex or with credit card.

With Meal Plan: There is a $2 fee in addition to using a meal plan swipe (before tax). Flex or credit card will be required for payment.

Why is there a charge for To-Go Meals?

UNT’s Dining Halls are designed to be environmentally and economically sustainable, so we do not offer Dining Hall meals to-go. Take-out service increases costs and generates additional landfill waste.

The $2 fee for To-Go Meals is to cover the cost of the sustainable container used to package the meals. This fee contributes to the environmentally friendly packaging and supports sustainability initiatives.

What forms of payment are accepted at Bruceteria?

Bruceteria accepts Flex and credit cards as forms of payment.

Can I purchase To-Go meals for friends or colleagues?

Yes, you can purchase To-Go Meals for your friends or colleagues using your Block Meal Plan or paying the retail price. Simply specify the number of To-Go Meals you’d like to purchase upon entry. Payment can be made with Flex or credit card, and the pricing for each To-Go Meal is as follows:

No Meal Plan: $11.35 total retail cost (before tax)

With Block Meal Plan: $2 fee plus a meal plan swipe (before tax)

Unfortunately, Unlimited Meal plans cannot be utilized to buy To-Go Meals for friends and colleagues.

On which days and at what times can I purchase To-Go Meals?

To-Go Meals at Bruceteria are available for purchase Monday-Friday during the following hours of operation:

Breakfast: 7:00 A.M. – 10:59 A.M.

Lunch: 11:00 A.M. – 4:30 P.M.

Can I utilize my Unlimited Plan to eat in at Bruceteria and then fill my To-Go container during the same meal period?

No. If you choose the To-Go option upon entering the dining hall, you will receive a To-Go container for your meal selection. Servers will add your chosen items to the container, and re-entry to the serving line will not be permitted.

Can I fill my To-Go container and dine in at Bruceteria?

Yes. You may select the To-Go option when entering the dining hall, allowing you to fill your To-Go container and then choose to sit and eat inside the dining hall. It is important to note that the To-Go container is for one-time use only, and re-entry to the serving line will not be permitted.

Can I substitute the entrée for an additional side?

Yes. Instead of the entrée selection, you may order up to two additional sides.

Why are beverages not included in the To-Go meal?

Beverages are not included in the To-Go meal to help maintain lower costs by eliminating the need to provide cups and lids. This allows us to offer the To-Go option at a more affordable price.

Can I get a refund if I change my mind and decide to dine-in.

No. Refunds will not be provided if you have initially selected the To-Go option and later decide to dine-in. Once the To-Go option is chosen, the transaction is considered final due to the point-of-sale system.

If I use my Unlimited Meal Plan and purchase a To-Go meal at Bruceteria, can I still dine at another location after leaving?

If you use your Unlimited Plan for a To-Go meal at Bruceteria, you will be temporarily locked out of your Unlimited access until the next meal period. However, you can use Flex to pay the retail price to re-enter a Dining Hall if you choose. Your Unlimited access will be re-enabled and available for use at the next meal period.

Why is my Unlimited access locked out of the meal period if I get a To-Go meal?

For the pilot program, additional funds have not been allocated to support the additional expenses incurred during this pilot period.

Can I purchase a To-Go meal if I do not have a Meal Plan?

Yes. Customers without a Meal Plan are welcome to enjoy an all-you-care-to-eat dine-in meal. However, if you prefer the To-Go option, it is available to students, staff, and individuals outside the UNT community for a fee of $11.35 (before tax).

Will there be To-Go options for students with dietary restrictions?

Yes. Bruceteria offers vegan and vegetarian items, and all allergens are clearly labeled on the food line for your convenience.

Why is Bruceteria the only dining hall offering a To-Go option?

Bruceteria, located inside Bruce Hall, is the exclusive dining hall offering the To-Go Meal option because Dining Service is conducting a pilot program during the Spring 2024 semester. This trial period involves limiting access to refine and evaluate the To-Go meal program. Bruceteria is offering the To-Go Meal option for breakfast and lunch periods. Students noted increased flexibility during the dinner period, so the pilot program does not include To-Go Meals for dinner.

Why am I restricted in what I can put into my To-Go box?

The To-Go Meal is designed to offer a complete and affordable dining experience. A To-Go Meal at Bruceteria consists of one entrée, two sides, roll and dessert. This structure is in place to help maintain affordability during the pilot period, while providing a satisfying and well-balanced meal

Can Dining Services employees choose To-Go Meals as their shift meal?

No. It is not permissible for Dining Services employees to opt for To-Go Meals using their meal tickets.
